Internship (Paid), Social Responsibility - Portland Trail Blazers (Portland, OR)

Compensation: Oregon Min. Wage, currently $9.25

Hours: Part-time/Variable (avg. 28 hrs per week)

Term: July, 2015-June, 2016 (Duration of internship based on performance and/or business need.)

PURPOSE: To assist social responsibility department with community relations efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Run and staff Rip City 5050 raffle program at all Trail Blazers home games, including technology set-up, volunteer training, cash counting, and post-game reporting
  • Complete and track all 5050 documentation for winners, nonprofit recipients, and internal accounting
  • Monitor and report on 5050 results game-by-game and for the season
  • Fulfill, track, and manage all in-kind donations for nonprofit recipients and community events
  • Staff youth basketball and fitness events, as needed
  • Support make it better social media efforts
  • Conduct miscellaneous online research for various department projects
  • Participate in additional administrative tasks for social responsibility department
  • Occasional after-hours community events on non-game days

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Current college student or recent college graduate.
  • Must be available to staff 5050 raffle pre, during, and post all Trail Blazers home games
  • Proficient computer skills -- MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Demonstrate excellent follow-through
  • Resourceful
  • Quick-learner
  • Motivated and takes initiative
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Nonprofit experience
  • Interest/experience in basketball and fitness
  • Excellent telephone and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude and approach to this role

  • Able to work well with different personalities in fast-paced environment
  • Able to handle highly sensitive and confidential information

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:  May 2015 – August/September 2015 - Duration of internship based on performance and/or business need.

HOURS PER WEEK: Variable (Average 25 hours per week)

COMPENSATION: Oregon Min. Wage currently $9.25 per hour

Job Summary/General Description:

This position is designed to allow the intern to experience various facets of the Human Resources Department with the Trail Blazers & Rip City Management. Interns support the Human Resources team by aiding in a variety of projects, recruitment, employee activities and maintaining various files for an organization with over 300 events a year and 1,000+ employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain various files, including employee personnel files, I-9 files; EEO data files.
  • Participate in college and recruitment job fairs.
  • Participate in preliminary job interviews.
  • Perform reference/background checks
  • Assist with HR audit of personnel and I-9 files.
  • Organize employee information packets.
  • Input various information in HR databases.
  • Miscellaneous other projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Pursuing or completed a bachelors degree.
  • Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with highly confidential information.
  • Some experience working in a professional environment highly preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented.
  • Able to make independent decisions; quick learner; problem solver.
