Internship (Paid) - Sports Communications 2014/2015 Season - Portland Trail Blazers (Portland, OR)

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: The ideal candidate can work September 2014 - July/August 2015 (Duration of internship will be based on performance and/or business need.)

HOURS PER WEEK: Variable (Average of 25 hours per week, but some weeks may exceed 40 hours)

Pay: Minimum Wage (Currently $9.10 in Oregon)

PURPOSE: Provide assistance to the Trail Blazers Sports Communications department during the 2014/2015 NBA season.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Write and edit game notes
  • Assemble media packets for every home game
  • Process game day credentials and seating charts
  • Manage credential/media entrance for home games
  • Assist sports communications staff with game night responsibilities (statistics, injury reports, etc.)
  • Write press releases, media advisories, player bios and statistics
  • Participate in planning and implementing PR plans for media events
  • Participate in producing game program (Rip City Magazine)
  • Assist in coordination of player/staff interviews and appearances
  • Compile daily press clippings for distribution to staff
  • Track and assess statistics and statistical trends and use that information to create content and content ideas
  • General administrative projects for communications department
  • Miscellaneous research
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

  • Pursuing or completed a bachelors degree in Communications or related field
  • At least 6 months of experience in a similar role in a school, internship or professional environment preferred.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends and occasionally more than 40 hours per week

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent understanding of NBA basketball and basketball statistics
  • Proficient computer skills -- MS Word, Excel, Adobe InDesign
  • Proficient/capable writing skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Resourceful. Quick-learner
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent telephone and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work well with different personalities in fast-paced environment
  • Able to maintain a high level of professionalism in multiple environments
  • Able to handle highly sensitive and/or confidential information

INTERNSHIP (Paid) - Graphic Design 2014/2015 Season - Portland Trail Blazers (Portland, OR)
Other employee benefits; relocation expenses will not be covered.
PURPOSE: The internship position will have a specific focus on Graphic/Production Design within the Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter Marketing Department as well as the Corporate Partnership Department..

Learning Objectives: The student will have the opportunity to explore, observe, and participate in a variety of departmental activities including:

• Graphic and production print design
• Graphic and production web design
• Design Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter company materials for Ticket Sales and Services, Community Relations, Corportate Partnership, Game Operations, Events, concerts, family shows and general Marketing.
• Design co-branded promotional and collatoral materials for Trail Blazers corporate partners
• Photography services including Shooting, photo selection and manipulation.
• Archive digital photography in on-line photo library
• Provide assistance with print production (set up files, etc.)
• Participate in meetings and brainstorming sessions for upcoming projects
• Assist in general Marketing Department projects, events, promotions and activities.


• Must either be currently enrolled in or have earned a degree in the areas of: Graphic Design, Illustration, and/or Art Media
• Must be on-site/in –office 4-5 days per week (M-F) during season and 2-3 days per week (M-F) in off-season.
• Must be able to work on Mac (primarily) and PC platforms (microsoft word)
• Proficient in (CS6) Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, PowerPoint
• Attentive to detail and direction and have excellent organizational skills
• Proactive problem solver
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects for multiple clients simultaneously
• Must be open and responsive to design feedback and changes
• Must be able to communicate status of projects effectively to department and clients
• Must be a quick learner and enjoy a fast paced environment
• Must have design portfolio to demonstrate experience
• Digital design and developmer skills a plus (Basic knowledge of digital based design and development programs including html, CSS, UX & UI design, mobile design, fluid layout, Dreamweaver.)
