LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: 2015-2016 NBA Pre-Season through Post-Season, typically September – May (Duration of internship will be based on performance and/or business need.)

HOURS: Typically 20/week but are variable (Some weeks may exceed 20 hours). Some nights and weekends are required.

COMPENSATION: Oregon Min. Wage, currently $9.25 per hour

PURPOSE:

The Marketing Intern will work directly with the Marketing staff on a variety of promotional, media and advertising projects to gain the knowledge necessary to be an asset to any marketing team. Upon completion, the Intern will have received first-hand experience in media management, promotional strategy, event planning, and project planning - including the development necessary to showcase those skills in any fast-paced professional environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assist with basic office organization and administrative duties including filing, invoice processing, etc.
  • Assist in the execution of promotional opportunities for the Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter.
  • Manage media invoice reconciliation.
  • Assist with execution of game day media elements, to include writing and editing drop copy.
  • Manage occasional promotional activities during home games, family shows, concerts and/or special events.
  • Assist with printing and posting of signage for Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter promotions.
  • Manage storage system for items used during Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter promotions.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed.
  • Help coordinate team programs and initiatives, including Rip City Resident and Blazers Student Pass.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Portland-area College Student (in Junior or Senior standing) in an applicable major or significant knowledge of/interest in Marketing or Advertising.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft software, including Excel and Outlook. Design knowledge a plus.
  • Exceptional communicator.
  • Quick learner.
  • Deadline-oriented.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects at once.

Internship (Paid) - Graphic Design - Portland Trail Blazers & Rip City Management (Portland, OR)

HOURS PER WEEK: 27 hours per week (on average)

COMPENSATION: Oregon Min. Wage currently $9.25 per hour

PURPOSE: The internship position will have a specific focus on Graphic/Production Design within the Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter Marketing Department as well as the Corporate Partnership Department.

Learning Objectives: The student will have the opportunity to explore, observe, and participate in a variety of departmental activities including:

  • Graphic and production print design
  • Graphic and production web design
  • Design Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter company materials for Ticket Sales and Services, Social Responsibility, Corporate Partnership, Game Operations, Events, concerts, family shows and general Marketing.
  • Design co-branded promotional and collateral materials for Trail Blazers corporate partners
  • Photography services including shooting, photo selection and manipulation.
  • Archive digital photography in on-line photo library
  • Provide assistance with print production (set up files, etc.)
  • Participate in meetings and brainstorming sessions for upcoming projects
  • Assist in general Marketing Department projects, events, promotions and activities.

Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:

  • Must either be currently enrolled in or have earned a degree in the areas of: Graphic Design, Illustration, and/or Art Media
  • Must be on-site/in-office 4-5 days per week (M-F) during season and 2-3 days per week (M-F) in off-season.
  • Must be able to work on Mac (primarily) and PC platforms Proficient in (CC) Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, PowerPoint, Word
  • Attentive to detail and direction and have excellent organizational skills Proactive problem solver
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects for multiple clients simultaneously
  • Must be open and responsive to design feedback and changes
  • Must be able to communicate status of projects effectively to department and clients
  • Must be a quick learner and enjoy a fast paced environment
  • Must have design portfolio to demonstrate experience
  • Digital design and developer skills a plus (Basic knowledge of digital based design and development programs including html, CSS, UX & UI design, mobile design, fluid layout, Dreamweaver.)

Overview: The Rose Quarter Marketing Intern acts as an extension for the Rose Quarter Arena Marketing Department, with a primary focus on Non – Trail Blazers events such as concerts, family shows and other sporting events. The Marketing Intern will not only assist in the advertising/ media buying, promotions, social media and grassroots efforts for the events and the facility, but will also take a lead role in many of the aforementioned responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide marketing support for concerts, family shows, sporting events, and the Portland Trail Blazers as needed
  • Responsible for coordination of collateral material such as promotional pieces, schedules, calendars, monthly newsletter, etc
  • Responsible for maintenance of all marketing contact lists/ databases
  • Responsible for compilation of all event settlement information
  • Assist for the Social Media efforts for all Rose Quarter events on all Social Media channels
  • Assist the marketing department with various projects involving research and design
  • Assist the marketing department with internet content and reporting
  • Assist in the development and design of contests that grow permission based databases
  • Assist with other department needs
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned
  • Organize mass mailings
  • Data entry as needed
  • Participate in the brainstorming sessions
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications (educational, experience and basic knowledge requirements) and Skills and Abilities:

  • Marketing, Communications, or Sports/Business Management major preferred
  • Proficient in Social Media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc
  • Minimum of 1-2 years Marketing experience preferred
  • Prior sports and entertainment Industry experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer
  • Detail oriented w/ excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Creative and proactive problem solver
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and selected holidays
